Re: trouble with gnome

The icons that appear are mostly displaying the time. And I am using
Gnome 2.0.The main problem is that there is a distorted black and white
image that runs acrross the top of my screen. Somebody from a Gnome
forum told me that the cause might be that xfree86 might not be
configured correctly for my video card. If this is the problem how can I
fix it?

It's hard to say. Can you be more speciffic? What version of gnome are
you using?

"The desktop doesn't fit on the screen" implies that you may have the
monitor settings of X11 misconfigured.

As for random icons appearing in the middle of the screen, what icons
are these? What exactly do you mean by "in the middle of the screen"? Do
they have titles? Are they all in a little window?
