gmix and gnome start-up

Howdy-doody;

I installed gmix from Debian's dselect (I think) and now gmix starts up 
every time I start gnome. I can't figure out how to stop it (gmix, that 
is) from doing this. Actually, now that I think about it, I believe the 
obstinate behavior started when I added the mixer applet to my panel. 
But it won't stop even if remove the mixer applet. Anyone care to comment?
