cron is the package which does all the housekeeping jobs in
the backgroud. You can move/edit/remove the cron jobs, yes.
Whether it's a good idea in all circumstances I'm not sure.
I don't have any cron.hourly jobs myself, so I don't know
what package might be requiring them.

cron has several man pages: on my RH box, the vixie-cron
package provides "man cron", "man 1 crontab" "man 5 crontab"
and more. I am hopeless at cron-altering, so I daren't try
to summarise them: good luck reading those yourself :)

I don't know of a GUI tool to edit this stuff. I also can't
imagine with xmms is dying as a result of cron. xmms's bugtracker
is not at Gnome's bugzilla: it's at http://bugs.xmms.org and
is another bugzilla. Querying for "cron" returns nothing.
