Beep every 2 seconds (magicdev)

I've just put RH 7.1 on a Compaq Armada M700.  Works
great.  Using Gnome.  But, after X starts and loads, a
low volume beep can be heard ever 2 seconds through
the systems speaker.  I tracked this down to magicdev.
 A kill -9 fixed the beep, but now I have to mount
disks manually.  Is there a new version of magicdev,
or a work around to the dang beep?
