Assuming you're sharing a home dir on both workstations. It isn't
really a gconf issue (gconf solves this problem, once all apps use
it). The issue is that some Bonobo components aren't set up properly
to be per-display, and that there's no locking on the plain text
config files in .gnome. It's something that should improve in GNOME 2
as everything moves to gconf.
