gdm autologin = no logout?

I recently tried the autologin feature of gdm (2.2.5.1). Login works fine,
however logout does not. Sometimes, instead of the gdm login screen, I am
automatically logged back in again. If this happens, then subsequent logouts 
take much longer for the logout dialog to appear, and (most times) the same 
behaviour repeats.

And sometimes is works as I expect it to.

Is this a bug or have I messed up the configuration?
