newbie question

hi,

 i have downloaded the latest version of gnome via helix and running on
 RH7.0

 i am using the TWM window manager

 my issues are:

1) i don't get a panel (with the gnome footprint icon etc) at the bottom
of my desktop when i startx in linux. i do get a control center window
up but no main panel. is there some thing i need to set somewhere?

2) when i close down gnome using the left hand mouse key -> exit
the window manager hangs and i have to reboot the machine.

appreciate any tips.
