i had this problem too, it turns our the default Xfree 4 setup doenst
setup all the font loaders, i had to add these lines and to the module
loading section

Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
Load "speedo"

that should get it working, i think you have to edit the XF86Config-4
file too, thats the one xfree 4 on redhat 7 uses i think
