I met this. I think it's because I had several versions of db installed: 
db-1, db-2, db-3, and all the -devel packages. I put 
+%define  preferdb  --enable-prefer-db1
in the specfile and added "%{preferdb}" to the end of the two lines in
the specfile which start with: CFLAGS="$MYCFLAGS". It then compiled
well enough for me to get stuck further along.

I think for tarballs you can just ./configure (blah blah) --enable-prefer-db1
