Hi, Asher -
You might look at /etc/X11/XF86Config (on a RedHat system,
anyway) and
see what your fontpath looks like. On my RH 6.1-based system
the relevant
section reads:
----------------------------------------------
# Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated
together)
# By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server
independent of
# the X server to render fonts.
FontPath "unix/:-1"
------------------------------------------------
You can also check the logfile: look at /tmp/startx.log to see
what happened.
