Chances are that the font list was modified and xfs doesn't know it, so it can't find the font you need.  Probably what you need to do is delete the socket in /tmp/.font-unix and then restart xfs.  This has happened to me before, and that's what's fixed it.  I'm assuming that you're getting an error such as "Cannot find default font `foo'," because that's what it sounds like.
