gnome-terminal bug? in handling of "secure keyboard" feature

gnome-terminal 1.4.0.2.  Debian potato 2.2r2, XFree86 3.3.6.

If I set any X terminal to "Secure Keyboard" mode, and then attempt
to set a gnome-terminal to this mode as well, it appears to succeed: no
error is given, and the check-mark next to the option becomes active.

Afaict, this should not happen; some warning should be given to indicate
that the terminal is NOT in "secure" mode.  Xterm beeps and fails to
change the background color, for example.
