hi,
Sure it is not Xfree itself which is the problem? I would think that if
this was a GNOME problem, more people would experience it.
Xfree 4.0 on the other hand is not so widely adopted yet and is known to
have lot of bugs, many which will be resolved in the upcomming point
update of Xfree in the very near future. Of course there could also be a
GNOME/Xfree 4.0 combination problem.
