In this case any improvement would be unnoticeable:  compilers can't
fix code that does waaay too many redraws to begin with.  The pixmap
theme engine is well known to be horribly inefficient when many
complex pixmaps are used.

OTOH the GtkStep theme engine, which I'm currently running, appears to
be at least as fast as un-themed Gtk even on my P200 at home.
