weird display issue

I am a RedHat newbie.  Just did a fresh 6.1 install out of the box on 
a Compaq Deskpro 2000 200/MMX.  When I type the startx command to 
enter GNOME, my display  moves way to the left.  When I adjust my 
display and move it back, it only stays in place for about 10 seconds 
and then snaps back to being way off to the left.  Any ideas?
