unable to run control-center capplets

when I run control-center capplet from control-center,
I get the following warnings

** WARNING **: Unable reach the control-center.
Exiting...

** WARNING **: Unable reach the control-center.
Exiting...

The problem may be related to the fact I deleted the
metadata.db file earlier ( I did that because I lost
my icons after a recompile of gmc).  
All my capplets give this same error. 
I recompile the lastest version of control-center, but
I get the same errors.

What does this error mean?

Also I heard earlier of a control-center mailing list,
does anyone have the address?
