Michael,
I got the Abiword working by creating a sim link to libgal.so.3. If you
already have gal installed then you should have libgal.so.3 in your
/usr/lib/ directory. If you do then do the following: ln -s
/usr/lib/libgal.so.3 /usr/lib/libgal.so.2   as root. This will create
the link. then run: ldconfig   as root. For some reason Red Hat 7 still
gives a dependancy error so I just installed the RPM with the following
command: rpm -Uvh --force --nodeps abisuite-gnome-0.7.12.i386.rpm
This seems to work, though I'm not seeing many improvements that I was
hoping for, like inserting jpegs and gifs. Hell, I have no idea what
format abiword wants the picture in to insert it.....
