Bill,

I just did this, and it took about a week to get a functional gnome, but
it's working now.

To install as non-root, you're going to have to compile from source. Go
to this site for info on installing gnome on Solaris:

	http://www.clanger9.demon.co.uk/computer/gnome

I also found this site as well that may be of some help to you:

	http://www.cae.wisc.edu/~gerdts/solaris_gnome.shtml

I can't get to it right now, but it details how one person built gnome
on Solaris step-by-step.

To install as a regular user, you need to add the --prefix=<directory
where you want to install gnome> when you run the configure scripts.
The bin, lib, etc, man directories will be built under this directory.

If you follow the directions closely, you shouldn't have many problems,
but I'm sure something will bite you. There are plenty of helpful
people here to answer your questions. Feel free to email me if you run
into problems. I may be able to help you out.

Good luck,
Aaron
