I faced the same problems with GNOME ICU v0.9.3 - I have db, ndbm,
and gdbm on my systems. I could not get it to link with any one
of them, even after using the various configure options to choose
which of those libraries to use.
I am starting to suspect that the configure program does
not configure the link requirements properly. And since it happens
with GNOME and GNOME ICU it's not package specific, but rather
something at a higher level, like the configuration. However, I
have no clue how to fix it without manually editing each makefile
that requires the link flag.
