MDI/Embedding inconsistency?

This is not a direct criticism but more a comment. With UIs moving away from
one window/program to one document/window, how is Evolution's UI, many
programs embedded in one window with essentially a tabbed system, justified?

I'm not saying it's not a decent UI it just seems inconsistent with one
document/window.
