paint widget/component

Does anyone know of a paint/drawing widget or bonobo component?  Is there
a program that I could borrow one from?  I want to be able to draw with a
brush, draw shapes, add text, do fill, and other basic paint things.  
This would be embedded in another program.  Gimp would be overkill.
