swallowing apps in panel

can someone tell me how to swallow an app into the panel? i know this
must be easy, but i remember trying this in the 0.99 releases, not being
able to figure it out, and forgettting about it (assuming it was a bug).
now that gnome is stable i tried again, and since it's behaviour is the
same, i must be the problem :-P

i want to swallow the netscape component bar, so i go to the
foot->panel->add swallowed app. i fill in the name (Netscape) and the
command (netscape -component-bar) and the geometry (48high x 216 wide).
the panel starts a cute little handle box, and then the netscape
component bar shows up a fully decorated window in E.

what am i doing wrong? (or do i just not understand what "swallowing"
is? i think i do, unless it has changed since i used tkgoodstuff with
fvwm2 - now that was a cool desktop ;-)
