Certainly on Solaris, most of the GNOME problems I have heard recently
relate to gcc 2.95+.
This includes refusing to start, segfaults, saving settings, etc.

However, your problems seem to be with session management.
Does it behave if you use `gnome-wm` instead of `gnome-session` ?

BTW, anyone know what's up with the latest gcc? Luckily for me, I
stayed with 2.8.1...
