Assuming you installed from rpms, I don't think you should have to remove
them. If you've got the new rpms in a directory I think you should be able
to just to rpm -Uvh *.rpm otherwise you could go through and manually
remove all the gnome packages beforehand, but that would be redundant
redundant, I think.
