I had also problems with my modem or with installing it. I used netconf and it supports PAP.
You said you have ISDN, so you must dial a 0 before dialing the number, at least I have to.
Once you have created a new PPP-protocol with netconf you have to enter the DNS. I did this by
editing the resolv.conf int /etc manually. Then you have to edit the chat-ppp0 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts (I don't know if you have the same dirs, then just search for this files).
You have to enter 'OK' 'ATX3' between '' 'ATZ' and 'OK' 'phone number' so the modem won't
wait for the dialtone. I hope this will help you.
