gnome-core compiling problems

I'm slowly trying to get the gnome-core 1.0.53 tarball compiled and
am having some problems.  I've started with the entire October release
and trying to install to /usr/local/gnome.

I get the following output:

I've looked at the files and I'm at a loss for the error.  Any help
would be appreciated.
