I'm about to commence a project to enhance the panel by giving it a special
OS/2 WOS launchpad theme. The model the launchpad uses for buttons is quite
different to the gnome panel. In particular, buttons are allocated in a
gridlike pattern, and stay rigidly where they are put unless you drag them to
another place.
Which bring me to my first development issue -- how to manage different
"themes" for applications? This question is a little premature, since I
haven't explored GNOME to full potential yet, but since it came up, I will
mention it now.
