Two question

I just install Red Hat 6.0, and I have two small problems (but
annoying).
1. Each time I start Gnome two windows appear : Help browser and File
manager. I try deleting the session file from my home directory but
nothing changed. I would like a clean desktop (no windows) when I start.

2. This is not Gnome related but I would appreciated an answer. I set in
inittab my default runlevel to 5 (start in XWindow), but XWindow starts
always with 256 colors. What do I have to do to change that? (I want
800x600 and 16 bit per color).

Maybe somebody can help me.
