Just started looking into it, and it appears iCalendar has been
accepted by the IESG as a proposed standard. (http://www.imc.org/pdi/)

Looking at the RFC for iCalendar (well, the core object specification, 
rfc2445) I can see that vCal and iCal look the same.  I'm going to
poke some more and see what I can come up with.
