gtk option menu question

Hi all.

I have a simple question.

I have a gtk option menu with all his items and so on.
How can I select an item with something like 
gtk_option_menu_select_item_to_view(my_item)
?

gtk_menu_item_select nor gtk_menu_item_activate do what I want... or I
haven't understood what they do.
