I compiled Gnome from CVS a few weeks ago and toyed with some of the
applications. I mostly used the apps standalone (without panel, sm, or esd).
Everything worked fine.
Yesterday, I updated from the CVS and compiled. Everything went fine.
But now a lot of the newly-comiled apps refuse to do much. They start
execution, bitches about some gtk assertions failing, and then just waits
there. Doesn't draw CPU, segfault or do anything funnny. Here is the output I
get when I exec. gnome-help-browser:
Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtksignal.c: line 920 (gtk_signal_disconnect): assertion `handler_id > 0' failed.
Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkbox.c: line 332 (gtk_box_pack_start): assertion `child->parent == NULL' failed.
If I start the panel, same story. I've also tried the apps with various flags
(sound en/disable, sm en/disable).
I also experimented with gtk/glib 1.3 as well as the gtk/glib-1-2 releases in
CVS. Same result. (except for the extra warnings when using 1.3).
I suspect that I might have the wrong releases of some modules, or that I
messed up my local copy of the sources (although I copy the sources to another
location for compilations). Or that some of the apps should be running in the
backgroung. Or that I am just doing something really dumb or missed something
big in a FAQ.
I prefer using the CVS checkouts, as we pay for our net traffic. But I'm not
always sure which releases/branches/tags to specify (normally just use the
defaults).
Any clues or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
Thank You
