undefined symbol: _Xglobal_lock

Hi,
I am having a problem starting up gnome
I have redhat 5.2 and kernel 2.2.3
I read the install rpm web page at
http://www.gnome.org/start/getting_rh.phtml
and installed all of the rpms

I am getting the following error
