gimp and gnome - it works on suse 6

I downloaded gimp 1.0.2 as a tarball archive and had a problem even
after installing the gtk and glib rpms from suse 6's cd.  It still said
I had too late of a version of gtk on it and would end the configure. 
I then used the gimp.rpm on the cd and it installs and runs fine. 
Thanks for the pointers on installing gimp along with gnome.  Much
appreciated!!
