Here's an easy way that works for me:
1. Right click with mouse and select Arrange Icons,
2. Left click on the Home directory link on the desktop.
And it's stuck.
(To release the mouse again, kill gmc from a console, return to X
while gmc starts up again, choose a menu item using an alt key,
and we're back to normal.)
This is while running enlightenment, if that makes any difference,
and (almost) everything out of CVS from Friday.
