Invisible Panel

Arrrgh! Help!

I just got the latest crud out of CVS about a day ago,
regot gtk+ and glib (oops, non-stable versions :), and started
compiling.

I fired up X and no panel. Hmmm

It's running. If I do a ps it tells me that a panel is running
in the background quite happily. There are no error messages to
stdout or stderr. I tried changing my xinitrc from saying
exec gnome-session to exec panel

Nothing.

I noticed someone else on the list complained about something
similar, but I didn't see any replies.

Anyone?
