Super User Launcher

I was thinking that maybe an application could be made that launches apps with root/superuser privlages. This would let that app keep my gnome preferences (like the gtk+ theme), and let me do things like edit the /etc/* files and install rpms. I was thinking it would be like gnome-linuxconf, exept in one little app, not requiring every gnome app to make there own superuser login.

I bet $10 this was mentioned before.
