CVS and GNOME Questions

Does the GNOME CVS setup have any branching?  Similar to
the way freeBSD does it?  For example:

gnome-stable branch                                                             
gnome-current branch                                                            

Or is this going to happen a bit later when GNOME becomes a
bit more stable?

Also, this may have been asked elsewhere on a number of occasions,
but is there any work being done in defining what GNOME actually
consists of? Primarily, it would be nice, especially
for admins, to know what belongs to GNOME-1.0.  That is if I were
to get a support question about a GNOME app I would be fairly
confident that the user has at least everything that comes with GNOME 1.0.

P.S. - What about cvsup?  Why isn't it being used?
