Re: A must when virtual screen > physical screen

On 9 Mar, torben fjerdingstad scribbled:
-> I have my virtual screen bigger than the physical screen.
-> With that setup I had 2 serious problems, so I went back
-> to fvwm2 with manual placement.
->
-> 1) E open new windows out of my sight so they are difficult
->     to find.

nothing to be done - the WM has no clue your X viewport is les than the
size of the framebuffer.

-> 2) I have to pan to the bottom of the virtual screen to
->     reach the gnome panel.

move the panel to the top?

->  Suggestions:
->
-> 1) E should be able to allow manual placement and eventually
-> place new windows inside the physical screen.

how about looking at the configuration tool for E - middle mouse ont he
root window "configuration" look around.. ooh presto.. "Place windows
manually" checkbutton .. chekc it.. hit try or ok....

-> 2) The gnome panel follows the physical screen so it always
->     is visible.

can't be done - well ok - might be able to be doen using XF86DGA
specific extension stuff - but otherwsie painful and useless. just stop
using a virtual screen in X - the WM can provide it for you with better
interaction.
