There's no reason it will ever be different on the same platform (64-bit
platforms may use more though).

Basically you're seeing that every Gnome app uses about 2 megs of shared
library (which may not be fully loaded off the disk, so might not actually
be that large; in any case these 2 megs are the same for every app and so
10 apps still use only 2 megs). Then most of them use a few hundred K
individually, larger apps use more of course.
