Bah, no luck. I cleaned everything out and rebuilt. Once again,
everything works except for gdk_imlib.

It seems that you should just be able to make a symlink to the .so file
from the .so.0.0 file that gdk_imlib generates, but they appear to be
broken:

modname is set to imlib-xpm
g_module_build_path returned /usr/local/lib/libimlib-xpm.so
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

(those first two lines are from the debug statements I put in gdk_imlib) 
What's curious is that it crashes no matter what image type you try to
load. This makes it highly unlikely that png, jpg, etc. are busted (I
know they're not anyway, because I deleted all the old libraries,
recompiled, installed, and tested)

I'd sure be interested to hear from anyone who got gdk_imlib to run on
NetBSD (or *BSD).
