How can I turn off session management?

I have a couple of eterms set up to monitor the console and messages; they
are started by entries in the "Startup Programs" section of control panel.
It works great..EXCEPT session management doesn't see it as being in
startup, so when i log out an in again, i get the two eterms from
startup...and another two from session management.  Not a 1.0 feature, even
though I am using 1.0 as released today.

So, my question to you: how can I turn this off?

ps. my bg contention problem was solved by this release.
