I am having serious difficulties configuring gnome.I have read the Users
Guide, the FAQ, and scoured deja news to no avail. I hope someone can
point me in the right direction.
1. I can't log out of gnome. THere is no response from the push-button,
and I have to ctl-alt-bckspc to quit out of X. An error message comes up
in a terminal window " ** Critical **: file gsm-protocol.c: line 602
(gsm_protocol_new): assertion 'GNOME_CLIENT_CONNECTED (gnome client)
failed. **WARNING **: Could not connect to gnome-session."
2. I have to reset up the desktop with every x session. Perhaps because
the logout does not work?
3. What is the config file for gnome? I am using .xintrc, but this does
not seem to fire up anything I put in it, except enlightenment. For
example, "/usr/bin/panel" will not activate the pager when X fires up.
4. The sound for the themes does not work. "ps ax" tells me I 'esd
-terminate -nobeeps -as 2' is a process, but I can't even get a wave
file to play to test the theme sounds. CD audio player works fine,
however.
5. If I can't get gnome to behave, how can I bring back KDE?
Thanks for any help.
