It's certainly possible, but no one has actualized the possibility by
sending in a patch yet.  :-)

Seriously, it appears the gmc code base is sort of hard to work with, so
it's hard to add new features and views. A next-generation file manager is
underway, and this will be easier to add tons of cool features to.
Hopefully the particular GUI will be well-separated from the file-handling
backend, so people can add new kinds of view easily.

It's also a *great* opportunity for people to get involved in hacking -
this is really a core desktop component, very important for look-and-feel,
and there could definitely be more people working on it.
