convert and delegates.mgk are part of ImageMagick.  But if convert is being
invoked, then something else went wrong somewhere along the line because all
GNOME images are PNG and PNG support comes from libpng, not ImageMagick.

You aren't using PNG 1.0.2, by any chance?  It's broken (black backgrounds
are the usual symptom of this).  Get 1.0.3.
