Desktop icons keep changing positions - "musical chair" effect

Hello gnome folks,
since upgrading to gnome-core-1.0.6 (and more recently to
gnome-core-1.0.7),
my desktop icon layout keeps changing positions every time I start x.
I'm not sure of the exact pattern, but it looks like they are changing
position in some sort of rotation sequence.

Are there any plans to fix this recent "feature" (bug)? In
gnome-core-1.0.8?
