Yeah, that is what I find most strange. I do have libpng and libpng-devel:

Name: libpng Distribution: Manhattan
Version: 1.0.1 Vendor: Red Hat Software
Release: 5 Build Date: Wed Sep 23 19:05:45
1998
Install date: Mon Nov 23 13:31:14 1998 Build Host: porky.redhat.com
Group: Libraries Source RPM: libpng-1.0.1-5.src.rpm
Size: 249977 License: distributable
Packager: Red Hat Software <bugs@redhat.com>

On 5.2 and have 'em.

Hmmmm.

Here is the relevant output from my "configure" in "imlib":

checking for png_read_info in -lpng... yes
checking for png.h... yes
checking for png_structp in png.h... yes
checking for libpng version other than 1.0.2... yes

So you would think that loading PNG's would be native, no?
