esd question...

This has been bugging me for quite some time now. My sound card is
configured correctly, i can play mp3's, wav's, and even quake works w/
sound.  But, when I try to start esd, I get:

initializing...
unsupported sound format: 33
fatal error configuring sound, /dev/dsp

Any clues?  SB16 clone *ak clone*

But like I said.. everything else works, but esd.
