I have esd started in the xdm/GiveConsole script and killed in the
xdm/TakeConsole script. I understand gdm has corresponding scripts.
I believe that whichever program (wm, gnome-session, etc.) started
esd should terminate it when it closes. I think E already does this.
not sure about gnome-session.
