I had the same problem until I pulled down glib 1.1.14 and gtk
1.1.14 from gtk.org. Why the Gnome site isn't up-to-date for these
libraries, I have no idea. It allowed me to compile nearly
evrything recent module, many of which had similar build problems on
my system.

I have gnome .99.3 working correctly, and i downloaded the patches
for
gnome .99.5, but i get the next error when compiling:
