For quick success, please update the Base, the Devel and the GNOME
series; by now, SuSE Linux 6.3 is available from ftp.suse.com and mirror
sites.  And use compiler and libs shipped with SuSE Linux.  Than it's
quite easy to compile the new (g)mc.

6.1 is far too old -- GNOME is a fast moving target...
